a legacy of contemporary dining Since 2000

David’s Restaurant has been a cornerstone of Carlisle’s dining scene since March 2000, founded by David Wilson and David Humpston. After a decade of success with their café-bistro on Cecil Street, the Davids set out to create a welcoming space where great food, carefully selected wines, and warm hospitality come together.

In 2002, Chris Austin joined as Head Chef, bringing a passion for fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a deep appreciation for British culinary traditions. A graduate of Carlisle College and a former chef at Crosby Lodge, Chris is dedicated to showcasing the best of classic British cuisine—refined yet unpretentious, with a focus on seasonal produce and bold flavors.

When the Davids retired in 2010, Chris naturally stepped in to carry their vision forward. Over the years, David’s Restaurant has evolved, embracing a contemporary dining approach—where timeless British recipes are reimagined with fresh ideas in a relaxed, inviting setting.

On St. David’s Day 2025, we proudly celebrated 25 years of serving the Carlisle community, and we’re just getting started. With an ever-evolving menu and a dedication to creativity, we continue to craft dishes that surprise and delight.

We look forward to welcoming you to David’s.
